Spiralling Skywards: Falling - Lesley Jones

Falling

It only takes one defining moment.
One look.
One dance.
One conversation.
Sarah knows from the second she meets Liam that their connection is more than just instant attraction. It’s deep, it’s consuming, and has the potential to be the real thing. But true love comes at a price.
Fuelled by Liam's past, Sarah's issues, and a messy web of family ties, business partnerships, and exes, the combined forces threaten to snuff out their new found relationship. Will that spark be smothered by outside forces? Or will they be carried like smoke from the ashes and sent spiralling skywards?
Written in Lesley Jones’ usual heartfelt, witty, and emotional voice, this dual point of view story is just the beginning of her Spiralling series

Michaela's Review

Argh! I actually feel like kicking myself for this as i am truly a massive fan of Lesley Jones and her outstanding work but this just didn't work for me. I don't like to read about perfect men as i like work i can sort of relate to and imagine and as no one is perfect i found it a little hard. I also felt it was very slow paced. I pushed on though and found some interesting characters made themselves known further on and the last part of the book has me intrigued for the next.

The Stranger's Voice

The Stranger's Voice. It's a stand-alone story based in Brighton (although there is a trip to Hong Kong too).I'm so looking forward to this book coming out! I've been counting the days!

Released March 8th, 2017

It's about a woman who is losing her hearing, Adaline lost her ability to understand speech from birth. She's brilliant, intelligent and has managed to hide this from the world she lives in. Each time Adaline confesses to a boyfriend they quietly walk away. So when Callum rocks up, she thinks he'll do the same.

Callum and Adaline have spent a long time hiding, and if they're not careful, they could both end up recluses. Once they meet they make it their mission to solve each other's perception of their #HiddenImperfections.

There's sass and plenty of heat between them, but most of all there is a mutual understanding of how cruel friends and family can be when they find out you're not perfect to them.

Here is a snippet

“Sod him. Does that mean your flat is available to rent?” Steph asked me, she stared intently on my reactions. I made a fish impression, trying to break her scrutiny, she only lasted thirty seconds before breaking into fits of giggles. I raised my eyebrows still making the fish an impression with my lips. My cheeks hollowed out, and I increased the tempo of my lips moving up and down. Steph threw her cloth napkin at me, and I grinned.
“Why do you want to know?” I leaned forward, my eyes wide, raising one eyebrow. I knew what she was up to, she reeked of a cunning plan. It was written all over her sheepish looking face. I threw her napkin back at her, folded my arms under my breasts and waited for her to answer.
Steph straightened up and took a deep breath. “Elliott’s best friend has just come home from overseas. He stays with us, but after a day, he feels uncomfortable imposing on us. We’d have him there forever, but he thinks because we’ve been married less than a year, we should have the freedom to have sex wherever and whenever we feel like it. He thinks that him being around will dampen our sex life.
“That’s pretty considerate. Is this person good looking?” I asked. I don’t want a hot guy moving into the flat opposite mine. I don’t need the distraction. I’d never met a handsome man who wasn’t an arsehole.
“No, I don’t think so,” she frowned and looked up to the sky for divine help. “No, definitely not handsome.”
“You’re a shit liar. Is he rich?”
I thought rich, handsome men were the worst kind. I should know, my university was full of them. Steph had fixed me up on a few dates with her friends. All of them stunning in the looks department and had a decent bank balance. All of them rude, arrogant and self-centred. I had no interest in those kinds of men. Give me a poor, plain looking man, any day of the week. So long as he had rugby player thighs.
“Um,” she pondered this question, looking left and right. Who, she thought was going to help her with the question I had no idea. Unless she hoped the seagulls sauntering around our table knew the answer.
“Let me make this easier. Is he richer than the Beckhams?”
“Um,” she paused again.
“Bloody hell Steph, you had to think about that? Why the hell would you be trying to get him to rent the flat if he’s minted?” Irritated temporarily I took a swig of my latte, only to find it freezing cold. Politeness dictated that I swallowed the liquid. My upbringing would have had me spitting out on the paving stones next to us. The term, dragged up, applied to me.
“He is really down to earth, normal like you, Elliott and me. You won’t regret letting him move in, I promise.” Steph commenced fluttering of her eyelashes, blowing me smooch kisses and clasping her hands in a begging motion.
“I want to interview him first, if he passes my strict questions, then he can move in. But, the flat is a state. Jeff left it in a real mess, the doors are hanging off the hinges in the kitchen, the carpet needs replacing. None of which I can afford. The shop is a money pit too. I need to sell a decent comic to finish the renovations.”
“Did I mention, he’s a carpenter?”

Will - Kerry Heavens

Rachel - Yet another book I've been dying to read.

Synopsis

Will Middleton has no clue how much I want him. He looks at me like I’m an angel, and all I can think about is how he would look tied to my bed.
He’s the perfect gentleman. Amazing considering he’s related to The Spencer Ryan.
He is everything Spencer is not. Sensitive, considerate, and unassumingly handsome.
I’d like to show him that’s a good thing.
But he broke my heart once, and I don't know if I can let him do it again.

Mags Goldsmith is a beautiful, confident heiress and she seems to want me.
Although she really shouldn't. I'm not what she needs.
She’s a goddess. And when I say goddess, I mean erotica writing siren, who knows more than one use for a riding crop.
Everything I thought I knew about her has been rewritten, and now she’s got me tied up in knots. She's everything I've ever wanted and more, I just have to prove I’m worthy.

This is not your average British romance.
It's a tale of second chances, strap-ons, and of course sex oranges, all bound up and tied to a bedroom door.
It's love in the real world, where bad boys are a dime a dozen.
And it takes a real man to be a good boy.

Managed - Kristen Callihan

I have been looking forward to reading this book so so so so so much! I loved Idol and have been on tenterhooks waiting to read this!

Synopsis

It started off as a battle of wits. Me: the ordinary girl with a big mouth against Him: the sexy bastard with a big...ego.

I thought I'd hit the jackpot when I was upgraded to first class on my flight to London.

That is until HE sat next to me. Gabriel Scott: handsome as sin, cold as ice. Nothing and no one gets to him. Ever. He's a legend in his own right, the manager of the biggest rock band in the world, and an arrogant ass who looks down his nose at me.

I thought I'd give him hell for one, long flight. I didn't expect to like him. I didn't expect to want him. But the biggest surprise? He wants me too. Only in a way I didn't see coming.

If I accept his proposal, I leave myself open to falling for the one man I can't manage. But I'm tempted to say yes. Because the real man beneath those perfect suits and that cool façade just might be the best thing that's ever happened to me. And I just might be the only one who can melt the ice around his heart.

Let the battle begin...

Normally I don't mind a novella every now and then but I felt like this story moved too quickly for me. Don't get me wrong the story was cute and I love an alpha as much as the next girl, but I felt it was just trying to fit too much in to a small book.

 Excerpt

Aiden had known the second he laid his eyes on that spectacular hourglass figure of hers that he wanted her. Of course he had. A man would have to be dead not to want to spend time between those gorgeous thighs, worshiping at those fantastic breasts while he fucked into what he’d bet was the tightest pussy in creation. Yes, his cock had screamed ‘MINE!’ the moment his gaze settled on her fine little body. But the second she’d turned and he’d seen her exquisite face for the first time… yeah, he’d been done. He’d known that woman would hold him – heart, mind, body, and soul.
There’d been no question at all.
He was claiming sweet Carolina for his own.

Jana Aston - Wrong, Right, Fling and Trust

I'd actually read Wrong when it very first came out and I've had the rest on my TBR (which is huge) for ages. So here goes......

Wrong

I have a history of picking the wrong guy. Gay? Player? Momma’s boy? Check, check and check.

Now I can’t stop fantasizing about one of the customers at the coffee shop I work at between classes. It’s just a harmless crush, right? It’s not like I ever see this guy outside of the coffee shop. It’s not like I’m going to see him while attempting to get birth control at the student clinic. While wearing a paper gown. While sitting on an exam table. Because he’s the doctor. Shoot. Me.

But what if, for once, the man I’ve had the dirtiest, most scandalous fantasies about turned out to be everything but wrong?

Right

My childhood was perfect.

I’ve led a charmed life, and I’m not going to blow it now by picking the wrong guy.

I’ve got my sights set on my brother’s best friend.
He’s known my family for years. He’s reliable and kind and handsome.

Sure, he’s been avoiding me since I was six.
I’m a bit aggressive for him, maybe.

But he’s the one… right?

Fling

I have a crush on my boss’ best friend.
At least it’s not my brother’s best friend.
Or my best friend’s brother.
Or… never mind. It’s all pretty cliche.

And worse? My boss’ best friend is his business partner.
Which sort of makes him my boss too.
Okay - it’s not sort of. It’s definite. Gabe Laurent is off limits. Totally off limits.

Which is fine. I make do with my imagination. He’ll never know. Ever.
Unless my work bestie passes me an eighties-style teen movie sex quiz
during a meeting and I fill it out.

And it ends up in Gabe’s hands…

Trust

“Knock knock!”
“Um… Who’s there?”

Yeah. That was me, on my last date. Before you feel sorry for me
you should know that I was the one telling the jokes. Jokes as in
plural, because I didn’t stop with just one. Of course not.

Hi, I’m Chloe Scott. The most awkward single girl in the city.
But I’m going to get it together. I am.

I’m going to learn how to date like a grown up.
I’m going to have an orgasm not given to myself.
I’m going to fall in love and live happily ever after.

Right after I get out of this interrogation room.

Rachel's Review

I loved Wrong. Totally loved it. I have my very own signed copy from when I met Jana at RARE16 in Edinburgh last year, aka my very favourite day of my life. It's been some time since i read wrong and whilst i was off work after surgery I settled down to read the rest.

It took me a while to get in to Right. I'm just not all that good with stalker-esque women. I loved it by the end though and glad I stuck by it.

I loved Fling right off the bat a good little novella and a nice little go between, between Right and Trust. I'm normally not a novella lover (I like a meaty book) but this one tickled my pickle for sure.

Trust was definitely my favourite out of this series. I do believe i read this one in one day. I loved Chloe's ability to ruin a date. I may have stolen some of her jokes for my own personal use ;-)

Never The Bride (Dilbury Village #1) - Charlotte Fallowfield

Rachel and Michaela - *~* arc received in return for a honest and unbiased review *~*
We both love Charlotte so so so SOOOOOO very much!

I think we both have bookshelves that have their own CJ section. I (Rachel) am currently gearing up for this years reader events so I'm ordering books quite often for signing. Charlotte's All That Glisters came yesterday. Sigh....... books........so good.

From Charlotte Fallowfield, bestselling rom-com author, comes Never The Bride - A laugh out loud romantic comedy novel full of heart-warming friendships, romance, and quintessential British humour.

Never The Bride (Dilbury Village #1)

Abbie Carter felt doomed as she clutched her bouquet and started walking up the aisle. Again. She felt like she was stuck in some kind of Groundhog Day wedding nightmare. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Eight dresses, most of them hideous, were already stuffed in her attic space. She had more bridesmaid dresses than relationships. Was she really that unlucky in love? She despaired of ever finding her soul mate and was convinced that if she packed away dress thirteen in her attic, she’d never get to wear the coveted white one and have her happy ever after.

That was until she locked eyes with one of the handsome ushers, whose wink turned her elegant and well-practiced glide up the aisle into a flailing Bambi-on-ice spectacle. Miller Davis was the first man in forever to make her heart skip a beat, as well as her legs turn to jelly. And, for once, her interest in a man didn’t seem to be one-sided. It was just a shame that the Atlantic Ocean separated them. Abbie couldn’t even make a relationship with her elderly fat pooch, Sumo, work, so what chance did she have with a permanent New Yorker? Her best friend, Georgie, told her to ignore the miles that separated her from Miller and to go for it, saying that true love knew no bounds.

Michaela's Review

Where to start?? I absolutely loved until we collide and couldn't wait to get stuck into Never The Bride and squealed with excitement when I saw it had landed on my kindle. This had me laughing out loud. I could envision these comical situations in my head as if they were being played out right before my eyes and that's down to Charlotte's amazing writing technique. If your looking for a light hearted, funny, romantic read then look no further. This is for you.

Rachel's Review

Ahh Charlotte, Charlotte, Charlotte, what an amazing book! Extremely funny and a really good light hearted rom-com. I love Charlotte's books so much. Whether they're light and fluffy and make me spit out my cup of tea (toilet and a glass roof, that's all im saying!) or fast paced and erotic (see The Temptress and other naughty goodies in that series), shes certainly one of my top authors. I love Charlotte's ability to write real life stories. I never say 'well that wont happen in real life' when reading them. Thank you for another fantastic journey that im sure I'll read again soon.

Rachel's Review

What another lovely read from Brenda Margriet. I ended up reading this book when I was off sick from work and even though it didn't cure me I certainly got all the good feels from it.

I loved the journey I took with Abigail and I sent a message to my other half part way through the book to see if we could change the destination of our family holiday to the Azores, she made me love the Island so much.

A really enjoyable book with a lovely storyline.
